Big Data, Sustainability Commitments and Retention Best Practice Discussed at VBM

During a Virtual Breakfast Morning held on Wednesday 26th April 2023 for members of Made in Group, three business leaders within UK industry shared their inspiring stories with attendees.

Virtual Breakfast Mornings are networking and best practice sharing events, exclusively for members of Made in the Midlands and Made in Yorkshire. Attendees have the chance to learn best practice from 3 hosting speakers, followed by a 30-minute round table discussion on relevant topics.

The speakers for this event were 3 business leaders at leading firms: Colin Nahor (National Account Manager of Hayley Group Limited), Edward James (Managing Director of Citizen Machinery) and Louise O'Brien (Managing Director of Greyhound Box).

Colin Nahor, National Account Manager of Hayley Group Limited, first gave a talk on People and Skills. Colin looked at how Hayley Group has grown from 3 employees in 1976, to over 1100 today. He also shared best practice on on Recruitment, Realisation of Skills and Retention of its people, that has helped Hayley Group to become one of the largest providers of MRO products and services in the UK.

Edward James, Managing Director of Citizen Machinery, then gave a presentation on Industry 4.0. The UK is suffering from a very low level of productivity and Edward believes the the key to improving this is understanding how things perform. Edward explained how Industry 4.0, along with big data, is helping Citizen Machinery make sense of the inefficiencies and keeps them on top of productivity.

Louise O'Brien, Managing Director at Greyhound Box, next discussed Sustainable Manufacturing with attendees. Louise explained how the company have developed a clear sustainability commitment strategy, as part of their company values, which draws on the likes of staff training, machinery, and processes in order to be successful.
