Servitization, Safer Workplaces & Sustainable Data: Insights from Industry Leaders

During July's Monthly Industry Meetup — which was held on Wednesday 26th July 2023 for members of Made in Group — three business leaders from Alucast, Wakefield Acoustics and Professional Polishing Services shared their inspiring stories with attendees.

Each month, Made in Group hold engaging talks from renowned speakers, focusing on key themes that shape the future of manufacturing. Our Meetup series covers a wide range of headline topics, including: Future Factories, Sustainable Manufacturing, Global Britain, and People & Skills. 

After listening to thought-provoking talks, attendees engaged in interactive virtual roundtable sessions with their fellow industry leaders, on the topics of their choice.

The first speaker was Tony Sartorius, Chairman at Alucast. Tony shared his invaluable insights on the topic of servitization, providing practical examples and discussing Alucast's early-stage adoption of servitization, including their exploration of revenue streams in areas such as prototyping, heat treatment, die penetrant testing, and casting simulation. This talk offered unique opportunity to learn from Alucast's journey and gain a deeper understanding of the potential of servitization for your manufacturing business.

The next speaker was Robert Lomax, Projects Manager at Wakefield Acoustics, who highlighted the importance of addressing workplace noise. During this talk, attendees discovered key insights on noise assessment terminology, employer requirements, exposure limits, and control strategies. This insightful talk offered the chance to gain practical knowledge to create a safer and more productive work environment.

Kirsty Davies-Chinnock, Managing Director at Professional Polishing Services, shed light on the pivotal role of data in driving sustainable practices, specifically focusing on the development of a groundbreaking carbon footprint calculator for metal polishing. hrough a collaborative effort with the University of Birmingham's ATETA program, Professional Polishing Services has successfully harnessed funding and academic expertise to create a digital process that identifies substantial energy cost savings and promotes industry-wide progress towards Net-Zero. Kirsty's insights and experiences provided invaluable guidance for businesses seeking to leverage data for sustainable success.
